ISWAI, in partnership with the Indian Nurses Association of Illinois (INAI), Malayalee Association of Respiratory Care (MARC), Rehabilitation Professionals of Kerala Origin (RPKO), and Malayalee Radiographers Association (MRA), will host a community 5K Run/Walk on September 12, 2026, at the Cook County Forest Preserve.
The event aims to raise awareness about lifestyle diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension, which are among the leading causes of death but can often be prevented through healthy eating and regular physical activity.
Proceeds from the event will support Chosen Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping developmentally disabled adults live independently and actively within the community.
Organizers report overwhelming community support, with participation expected to exceed 500 runners and walkers. Registration closes on July 31, 2026.
The event is open to individuals and families of all ages and fitness levels
